Movie Review:
someone knows what they want. someone only knows what they don't want. life gets interesting and out of control for both of the women in the romantic ambiance of Spain. then after a summer, it is time to move on. the subtlety of human emotions and interactions is forever the favorite subject for a movie or a novel etc. the search for meaning of life is eternal and futile.
some people are just naturally attracted to things like arts and find everything else mundane. but like the boring husband of Vicky said maybe the contempt for the normal values is just boring cliche too. so this eternal search for what one wants and for something different in a way is very affected and just as silly. it's not really that cool.
and a regular marriage and life sounds totally boring too, esp. with that talk of buying house, decoration and carpet (man this is so real-life). and it is not surprising in the first place that a usually very rational person will one day do the unthinkable out of passion and keep thinking about it afterwards with all the reasoning – but when the temptation comes, just can't help it again. after all, human being is made of organic tissue not abstract reasoning. (was that D.H. Lawrence?) but sometimes things can get too intense for you.
One can identify themselves with some perspectives and experience from these 2 different women. their story is unlikely in real life -- but the soul-searching is so very real. On the axis between certainty and uncertainty, where is the perfect point where certainty does not feel banal and uncertainty does not sound insecure? i guess there is no such point. it totally makes sense when the Buddha says all emotions are pain. (一切情绪皆苦).
